Laurie’s new book Wintergirls goes on sale Thursday, March 19–I am sure we will not be disappointed! Here is the sneak peek video:
]
From the YouTube video description:
Dead girl walking, the boys say in the halls.
Tell us your secret, the girls whisper, one toilet to another.
I am that girl.
I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.
Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friends restless spirit.In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the multiple-award-winning Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson explores Lias descent into the powerful vortex of anorexia, and her painful path toward recovery.
Five Starred Reviews for Wintergirls:
“A devastating portrait of the extremes of self-deception.” -Booklist, starred review
“As difficult as reading this novel can be, it is even more difficult to put down.” -Publishers Weekly, starred review
“Anderson perfectly captures the isolation and motivations of the anorexic.” -Kirkus Reviews starred review
“The intensity of emotion and vivid language here are more reminiscent of Anderson’s Speak…” -School Library Journal, starred review
“Readers will be absorbed by this gripping tale…” -BCCB, starred review
There is also a MySpace page for the book, too! How cool!
