In recent days, a few students have been shocked to see empty shelves where our fiction collection was once shelved. These students have gasped and asked, “Where are all the books?” Those looks of horror turn to huge smiles when we point them to our newly designed fiction section! The new fiction section, housed in what used to be the reference area, has more of a bookstore “Barnes and Noble-ish” feel as the shelves feature books with the covers up so that it is easier to see the books. The new fiction shelving also showcases creative book arrangements (while staying true to the Dewey Decimal System!) that are eye-catching.
So far, most students seem excited and pleased with the new changes! Two of our library regulars, Shelby and Nicole, have been especially happy with the new arrangements and thanked us for the newly created fiction section.
The Unquiet Library is planning a new seating and study area where the “old” fiction shelves were housed. Mrs. Hamilton is working to secure grants and donations to provide more lounge and study furniture for the media center. If you as a business or school community member would like to make a donation to our furniture fund, please call Mrs. Hamilton at 770-720-7600 x253.
One other major change you will now see is that reference books are intershelved with nonfiction books. This new intershelving puts all nonfiction and reference books together in continuous Dewey Decimal order. If you need assistance finding a book, please ask for help.
Take some time to come browse our wonderful new fiction section! We think you will be pleasantly surprised to discover something you’ll enjoy in our awesome collection!

Dear Creekview High School Learning Community:
Although January marks the beginning of the year on our traditional calendars, this month represents two milestones in the school calendar. January is the midpoint of the year and a time in which I pause to reflect on how the current school year has gone and where I would like it go. January is also the month in which I start looking ahead to the upcoming school year and what I hope to accomplish.
Dr. Joyce Valenza, one of the most respected media specialists and leaders in educational and library-information circles, recently tagged me in a meme and blog post that encourages reflection and goal-setting. While I am proud of the successes and direction of our library program, I know that we have yet to become fully integrated into all areas of our school program and much work remains for our library program to reach you, our patrons, in the way I first envisioned three years ago.
What ideas and concepts do I need to better share with you as students, teachers, and administrators? What does our library program need to do to help us all see beyond the short term effects of No Child Left Behind and testing to create learning experiences to go with you for a lifetime? How do I nurture lifelong learning for teens and adults? How do I infuse the beliefs and learning standards set forth for you as NowGen 21st century learners by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and ISTE NETS for Students? How do I help you as teachers and administrators (2009 version still in draft form at this time) see how information fluency standards for you affect the way you teach and how your students learn? How do I make learning playful and joyful for you?
With these questions in mind, here is my list of things I need to share with you with more depth in 2009:
Since this is a meme, I would like to invite these fellow school librarians to add to the dialogue:
“For apart from inquiry, apart from the praxis, individuals cannot be truly
human. Knowledge emerges only through invention and reinvention, through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world, and with each other.”

The Unquiet Library is pleased to announce that our new HP print management software is now working! Effective this morning, all student library patrons have a $10.00 account. Ten cents will be deducted from your account for each black and white page you print to the HP 2430 printer; twenty five cents will be deducted from your account for each color page you
print to the HP4700. Once you have only $1.50 of printing left, you will get a message on the computer alerting you to see Mrs. Hamilton to replenish your account; you may add any dollar amount of printing to your account once you have exhausted your initial $10 of printing that we have given you.
We hope this makes printing easier for you and alleviates the stress of not having small bills or loose change when you come to print in the media center or media center lab. Please see Mrs. Hamilton or Mrs. Fleet if you have any questions. Many thanks to our network specialist, Todd Rainey, for his help!
