Tape Art Sculptures Now Appearing Live@Your Unquiet Library!

Posted by theunquietlibrary on March 13, 2008

Check out the great tape art sculptures from Ms. McCloskey’s classes!   Go to http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=b98740005488c55f5ccb to see the video!

How are these funky pieces of art created?  According to Shanda McCloskey, our wonderful art teacher here at Creekview, the sculptures are created the following way:

The students work in groups of 4-5.  They begin by choosing one member to be “wrapped.”  The first layer is saran wrap and then 4 to five layers of packaging tape is applied on top of the models limbs and torso.  After the tape layers are thick enough to stand on their own, the students are cut out of their new “tape shells” leaving a hollow tape cast.

Visual Art students drew and inked high contrast images of themselves using the grid method and referring to photographs. Colors were used to suggest further moods or emotions to these, already, intimate pieces of art.
